Cockburn, Alden, MD


Dr. Cockburn is a urological and cancer surgeon who has practiced for 20 years in New York and Florida before moving to Taos in 2003. He has also held numerous academic positions both in Boston, New York and Florida. Dr. Cockburn is one of five surgeons at Taos Surgical Specialties. He provides Taos with a full range of urological services, prostrate cancer and renal cancer support, vasectomy, vasectomy reversals and circumcisions.

Dr. Cockburn is married and has two sons. In his spare time he enjoys staying active as much as possible. He swims at least five miles every week, skies during the winter months, hikes during the summer, and windsurfs. He’s recently hiked Mt. Kilimanjaro with his sons and he has run over 30 marathons. Since moving to Taos, he works as a farmer whenever he can find the time.  He also enjoys wood working and listening to music.

Alden Cockburn, MD received his Medical Degree from Tufts University in Boston, Massachusetts and completed a surgical intern and the surgical assistant resident program from Tufts New England Medical Center Hospital in Boston. He completed the urological resident program at Lahey Clinic Foundation Hospital in Burlington, Massachusetts as well as an urological-oncology fellowship at Memorial-Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, New York.

Born and raised in Galway, Ireland, Dr. O’Rourke graduated with honors from National University of Ireland in Galway. He completed a surgical/medical internship at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda, before moving to the States to complete his residency in emergency room trauma at Brookdale Hospital in Brooklyn, New York.

Dr. O’Rourke practiced in large facilities in southern Florida for over 31 years.

Dr. O’Rourke moved to Taos because he loves the mountains – and, he says, he looks forward to learning how to ski!
