Urinary Tract Infections in Taos

Urinary tract infections are a common type of infection, occurring when bacteria is introduced into the urinary tract (the bladder, kidneys, urethra, and ureter). UTIs are most common in adult women in direct relation to sexual activity; other risk factors include dehydration, diabetes, or other conditions blocking the flow of urine from the bladder (like kidney stones).

Symptoms include:

  • Burning or pain during urination
  • Pressure/cramping in the abdomen or back
  • Cloudy or odorous urine
  • Feeling a strong need to urinate, even if the bladder is empty
  • Kidney pain

UTIs are typically treated with antibiotics. Talk to your doctor if you’re concerned that you may have a urinary tract infection.
